Welcome to the Official BeeSeek Wiki!
BeeSeek is a project to build a free, open-source search engine based on a peer to peer technology.
The idea that move BeeSeek is to develop a search engine:
- whose source code is freely accessible to everyone;
- that gives warranties about individual's privacy;
- whose revenues are used for ethical projects;
- who share the processing work among the clients (peers) of the network;
- that doesn't store personal user data for long times and no more than needed.
If you are interested in a summary of technical details about how BeeSeek works, read the HowItWorks page.
A FAQ page is also available to give answers to the most common questions regarding BeeSeek. If what you are looking for is not there, please feel free to contact us at info@beeseek.org.
The BeeSeek Community
This project is driven by a community composed by volunteers. It has a very simple structure: 5 teams that take care of everything. Each of them has a Leader that rules and coordinate it. As you can see on the Community page, everyone can help in BeeSeek, even if you don't have great computer skill.
Read the Community page to have full details about how this Community is composed.
Get involved!
If you like this project, and you share the ideas that move BeeSeek, why don't you help us in developing our search engine? We are always looking for good people willing to help us in writing code, debugging, updating wiki, blogging, drawing wonderful artworks, promoting our projects, writing good documentation.
If you think you can help us, join one (or more) of our Teams in Launchpad, subscribe the team(s) Mailing Lists, subscribe to the wiki (and write your personal wiki page, if you will) and have fun!
What are you waiting for? Join our community!
How we work
BeeSeek gives many tools to Team Members for their work. They are listed in the Tools page.
The most important are:
our Mailing Lists;
IRC, both for work and for fun.
Also, coders and developers are probably interested in our Repository.
A ToDo list is available to check what's going on with BeeSeek.
Finally, when a Team Members needs a vacation, he can write a note on the Absences page, so that everyone knows who is available for works in progress.
