What is BeeSeek?
BeeSeek is a project to build a free, open-source search engine based on a peer to peer technology.
The idea
The idea behind BeeSeek is to develop a search engine:
- whose source code is freely accessible to everyone;
- that gives warranties about individual's privacy;
- whose revenues are used for ethical projects;
- who share the processing work among the peers of the network;
- that doesn't store personal user data for long times and no more than needed.
The innovation
The innovation of this search engine is not only the freedom that it gives to the users, but also its mechanism to collect search results that are based on previous searches:
- humans use search engine, like Google, Yahoo or MSN (GYM);
- they get results and click on some of them;
BeeSeek records those users actions that may be related to how much they like the page.
BeeSeek aims to provide a central repository for queries, and distribute the processing work to peers over the network, respecting the privacy of everyone.
The community
The project is driven by a strong community of volunteers. It is composed by teams that take care of everything, each one with a leader that rules and coordinate it. As you can see on the community page, everyone can help in BeeSeek, even if who doesn't have great computer skill.
